EasyWay

On behalf of the EasyWay ITHACA Euro-Area, with the European Commission (DG-TREN), Greek, Italian and Romanian Ministry of Transportation and Cyprian Ministry of Communication and Works, Greek National road fund (TEO), AISCAT, SINA, Consorzio Autostrade Siciliane (CAS) and all Italian partners of ITHACA, it is a great pleasure to invite you to the “EASYWAY 2008 Conference”.

EasyWay is a project that incorporates eight Euro-Regions (ARTS, CENTRICO, CONNECT, CORVETTE, SERTI, VIKING, STREETWISE and ITHACA) proposed by 22 Member States for the 2007-2013 period, in order to continue the successful work undertaken in the field of intelligent road transport technologies in the MIP 1 phase (2001-2006).

The EasyWay project is designed to define strategic actions and targets and identify the set of necessary services to deploy across Europe; it is designed to become an efficient platform which will allow coordinated and combined deployments of pan-European services. It focuses on the deployment of European services focused on European travellers and road user needs to receive information and guidance on the TERN and at interfaces with major urban networks. These services should be:

  • on the extent of the available networks and their characteristics,
  • on road, traffic and weather situations,
  • reliable and up to date,
  • recognised, understandable, usable
  • assuring the highest safety and assistance standards
  • supporting co-modality, interfaces with other transport modes and networks
  • interoperable and continuous across borders

The selected set of services directly focused on the above mentioned European road user needs are outlined in three main categories: Traveller Information Services (TIS), Traffic Management Services (TMS) and Freight and Logistics Services (FLS). These are in turn served by an enabling Connected ICT Infrastructure, focusing on collecting and disseminating information relevant for efficient road transport, which will include also information concerning other transport modes. The EasyWay Work Programme focuses on the sustainable implementation and operation of these services and infrastructures.
